KANCHER NAMED HEAD BASKETBALL COACH AT MOUNT SAINT VINCENT G.W. alum to serve as Assistant AD after successful stint at the Shipley School

(Sept. 21) - Zach Kancher has been named the new athletics assistant for facilities and operations and head women's basketball coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent it was announced by Director of Athletics Cathy Ingram. Kancher has spent the past two years as the head girl's basketball coach at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
At The Shipley School, Kancher guided his squad to a 33-16 overall record, including a 22-6 mark during the 2006-2007 season. He guided the team to Friends Schools League playoff appearances in both years and reached the league finals and the Pennsylvania Independent State Tournament finals last season.
Kancher recruited seven qualified student-athletes and developed two 1,000-point scorers. Prior to becoming the school's head coach in 2005, Kancher served as an assistant on the varsity squad during the 2004-2005 season and served as an assistant with the boy's varsity program the previous season. From 2003-2007 he served as the school's head girl's junior varsity coach and the junior varsity tennis coach from 2005-2007.
He also served as an Assistant to the Athletic Director, Athletic facilities coordinator and scheduler, liaison to the Physical Plant department and summer athletics program developer at The Shipley School. Kancher was also a lower and middle school physical education instructor at the school.
Kancher also served as an AAU coach, guiding his 13-U Comets team to a fourth place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals 2007. The Comets were also national qualifiers. He also coached the Delmont Blaze 14-U squad in 2006 and the Delmont Blaze 13-U team in 2005. His combined AAU record as a head coach is an impressive 51-16.
He has also worked at several camps, including the University Virginia Elite Camp as a gaurds instructor, the University of Villanova Team Camp, the Carroll Brothers Shooting Camp and served as the All Ball! site director in 2005.
Kancher received a Bachelor of Arts in English from The George Washington University in 2003 and takes over for 2007 HVWAC Coach of the Year Ed Ryder, who resigned after leading MSV to the HVWAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship a year ago.
A native of Philadelphia PA, Kancher currently resides in Riverdale.
